ATL Cyber-Fin Global Challenge a Success

By Events, Latest News, The Park

In September, Atlanta Tech Park successfully hosted the ATL Cyber-Fin Global Innovation Challenge covering the intersection of the Cyber, FinTech, and Blockchain industries. Nearly 200 executives from around the U.S. attended the event.

In her opening keynote, Atlanta Tech Park Founder Robin Bienfait said, “The purpose of the Cyber-Fin Global Innovation Challenge is for the tech talent and companies in Atlanta to get the notoriety they deserve.” The metro region is home to dozens of Cyber, FinTech, and Blockchain industry leaders.

In his welcome address, Jim Senn, the Founder of the Georgia FinTech Academy, highlighted six major FinTech and banking companies that are headquartered in Atlanta and reiterated how 70% of companies that process global credit and debit transactions are located in the state of Georgia.

A majority of the speakers and panelists discussed the importance of Cybersecurity in the FinTech space and what their roles and insights are to achieving stable growth while also setting the pace and approaching innovation with originality as well. Robin summarized the day’s main takeaways well when she said, “Cybersecurity is the underlying foundation for all successful tech businesses now and in the future.

After the content portion of the day was over, it was time for the the highlight of this year’s event: the Sertainty Data Security SDK Challenge. RotoMaire was awarded the $10,000 grand prize for his data security customer use case around safety recalls.

The entries for this year’s Sertainty challenge was so stout that the panel of judges, led by Atlanta Tech Park Founder Robin Bienfait, awarded multiple participants with cash prizes as a result of a 3-way tie for second place and a 2-way tie for third.

In response to the overwhelming success of the inaugural ATL Cyber-Fin Global Innovation Challenge, Atlanta Tech Park is thrilled to announce the 2020 event dates have been finalized. Next year’s event takes place September 15-18 at Atlanta Tech Park once again. A major keynote speaker and sponsor are already confirmed and will be announced soon.

In continuation of the Cyber event series, Atlanta Tech will also host the ATL Cyber-MedTech Global Innovation Challenge from April 27-29, 2020. More details will be announced soon.

3 Tips for Using Your Data to Superforecast Trends

By Latest News

By: Mia Xu with Valor Ventures

Predictive analytics and data analysis are experiencing a moment of glory right now. Never before have data collection and assessment been more accessible or actionable. However, it’s also not that easy. Using data ethically and accurately requires a process, context clues, and a plan of action. Here are some ways to think about how to use your data via the process of superforecasting to improve your business outlook and also improve your bottom line.

What is superforecasting?

Superforecasting: The Art and Science of Prediction is a book written by Philip Tetlock & Dan Gardner. It talks about how to use limited resources to make your predictions as accurate as possible. Based on the results shown by a program called “A Good Judgement Project,” people who have been trained with forecasting skills make better predictions than people who have not. Therefore, with proper training and practice, everyone can be a superforecaster.

Why forecasting and making predictions are important

Forecasting is needed for both our personal and professional lives. For instance, you may want to predict the 2020 presidential election result if you are interested in politics, or you may want to see how much revenue you can make by the end of next quarter to foster company growth. With forecasting, you can be more prepared and purposeful, which leads to accuracy and efficiency in your work and life.

Three tips for superforecasting

  1. Break down complicated questions into smaller ones so you can find answers that will help you make predictions incrementally. It’s often easy to get overwhelmed when making a key decision about the future, so instead of tackling the big problem as a whole, break it down into the smaller components so that you can feel confident in your justification and reasoning for making a final decision on the big idea.
  2. Use an outside view to jump into your prediction and inside view to generate a more specific prediction based on the uniqueness of the question. So often in business we make decisions as key stakeholders in the company’s strategy or operations without considering how our consumers may be impacted by or view the problem at hand. When looking at a question from the consumer’s perspective, it provides us with better context on what questions need to be answered internally and what solutions can be created to solve them.
  3. Be open-minded about feedback and failures since everything changes over time. It is always beneficial to keep digging and updating your predictions, but also make sure you are not under- or overreacting to information. It’s important to keep in mind that the forecasting is a way of making predictions. While you can better at making them, you won’t always be right and you’re sure to make mistakes as well. Understanding this should take the pressure off making a decision and enables you to recover after making a mistake or two. One person can’t know it all either. Make the best use of your time when you bring talented people together, and create an environment where everyone feels safe and comfortable to bring up diverse perspectives.

By Events

Over 70% of all credit and debit card transactions are processed through more than 160 Georgia-based companies, which results in billions of dollars in revenue across the board annually. Securely processing these transactions is an industry of its own, and Georgia is home to a handful of the 500 best cybersecurity companies in the world, according to Cybersecurity Ventures. Furthermore, more than 80 countries have a presence here in Atlanta, which makes the scope of our event a global one.

With that in mind, Atlanta Tech Park is excited to host the inaugural Global Cyber-FinTech Challenge on September 17 & 18, 2019. The event will feature keynote speakers, panel discussions, workshops, and one of the best networking opportunities within the industry this year. With over 500 expected attendees from companies around the world, this is a unique opportunity to position your company as a leader in the Cyber-FinTech space. Developers will also have the ability to participate in a handful of “challenges” for a grand prize of $10,000.

Why September and why Atlanta Tech Park?

As with any business, Q3 is a pivotal time of the year that allows many to evaluate how successful the year has been, change course if it hasn’t, and begin forecasting the coming year. Atlanta Tech Park is a great fit to host this event because of our passion for cybersecurity, which stems from Robin Bienfait, the Founder of Atlanta Tech Park, who developed multiple patents. “Cybersecurity is the underlying foundation for all successful tech businesses now and in the future,” Robin says.

OneLogin Opens Southeast Headquarters

By Latest News, The Park

In Q3 of 2018, OneLogin, a Unified Access Management solution for cloud-based companies, chose to open its Southeast office at Atlanta Tech Park.

(If OneLogin sounds familiar, it may be because the company recently secured a $100 million investment in January of this year.)

The OneLogin offices at ATP were originally a corner suite that consisted of one main office and three smaller offices with six employees. Since their arrival in late 2018, OneLogin has expanded its operation to onboard five more employees and build out its suite to include two more offices and a common area for its team—all within a glass wall with premium branding.

When asked why OneLogin why they chose Atlanta Tech Park as the location for their Southeast office, here’s what their VP of Sales, Drew Prante, had to say:

“The location made sense. We have people from as far out as Cumming and Woodstock while others are in Buckhead and Midtown. In Atlanta, it’s hard to find a central location, and Peachtree Corners allowed us to do that. The facility and conversations we had with Robin and Nashlee while we were looking for a space also factored into us to choosing Atlanta Tech Park.”

From the operations side, having OneLogin at Atlanta Tech Park has been great! Their office buildout served as a catalyst for some of our other companies to expand their own operations, whether it was moving from the open desk space area to a private office or—in the case of Critical Edge Tech—building out a glass wall and private suite of their own.
